Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to build my project?

There are 3 different variables that go into this answer. First, where are you at in que with other jobs. This I can only answer at the time you give me the go order. Second, would be availability of the material to build your Table. Some materials I have in stock, some I have a pretty good idea of where they are readily available, and some I will need to go on a search for. This part, I can also answer with a phone call. Lastly, actual build times usually average 2 to 3 weeks once I actually start the build. This final part is going to be affected by many variables, the difficulty of your build, and most importantly, how many times Murphy's law rears it ugly head.

Why are these pieces so expensive?

2 reasons.
First, building materials are obscenely expensive. I pride myself on shopping well, both in the search for the perfect piece of wood as well as buying bulk as much as possible. These practices help to pass savings along to you. Second, this type of build is extremely labor intensive. Most work is done by hand, with hand tools. Building a custom live edge table bears almost no resemblance to the cookie cutter approach used by big furniture manufacturers turning out hundreds of pieces per week.

How will my table be shipped?

My preference would be to hand deliver, and install your table in your home.  That way, I know you are satisfied with my work, and I can insure your table is looking good and sitting solid in its new home. Unfortunately, due to logistics, this is not always economically feasible, although I will bend over backwards to make this happen. The second option is for me to build a custom crate to protect your piece,  strap it to a pallet and ship it to you with a freight company. When we talk on the phone, this is an item we will discuss and decide together.

What are my options for legs?

I order in all of my legs, and your options are as many as the thousands available over the internet. As always that choice will incorporate your personal tastes, as well as the cost. I prefer metal legs, but can also install wood legs if so desired. I do have a working relationship with a couple of local  steel fabricators who can make great quality custom bases. This option is usually both a vit more costly and time consuming,

How long should my table last?

My goal as a builder is to build you a table that will last a lifetime. I take great pride in my work and tend to go overboard in the quality control department.  Most of this work is done  under the bottom of the table where you won’t see it. All big heavy tables come with inserts so the legs are bolted on, not just put together with wood screws which will loosen with time, use, and moving. Often times on thicker pieces the bottom will be routed out and steel or wood bracing will be installed to combat warping. Having said that, once the table leaves my shop, I cant control several factors that effect longevity. Chiefly among them is your environment {heat, humidity ,usage, etc}.all of these things will contribute to longevity.

What if I inadvertently damage my table?

Most damages that can occur to your table, can be fixed in my shop, sometimes the repair can be solved with a minor touchup in your home, and others require major overhaul in my shop. Your happiness is my first priority. If your table gets a bad dinger, please take pictures and send them to me so when we make repair arrangements over the phone, I know what I’m getting into.

Why don’t you have a BUY IT NOW button?

That would simply be because I value personal correspondence with my buyers. I would always prefer a face to face business transaction whenever possible, or a telephone chat with you above a computer sale. A custom table is a big investment and it’s important for me to get a good feel for what you want and expect.  I also feel it’s important that you feel comfortable with your builder.
